Casa Foundation, in partnership with The Hon. Rechie Valdez, hosted a successful Africa Day 2024 event on May 24th at the Sir John A. Macdonald Building in Ottawa with the theme “Investing in People of African Descent in Canada: An Entrepreneurial Perspective.”. The event highlighted the achievements of individuals of African descent in Canada and emphasized the growing population of African newcomers contributing to the country’s rapid growth.
Despite the progress, the event also shed light on the challenges faced by the African Diaspora, including rebuilding lives and communities in a new country while navigating systemic obstacles often overlooked. This gathering aimed to raise awareness and promote understanding of these issues.
The program featured interactive activities such as keynotes, fireside talks, panels, and workshops designed to provide practical advantages to participants. Workshops delved into topics like growth potential, entrepreneurship, sustainable investments, and economic development for Black-African businesses in the diaspora, offering essential knowledge and guidance for aspiring and established entrepreneurs within Afro-descendant communities.
Leaders, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders came together to explore investment opportunities for individuals of African descent in Canada. Participants shared ideas and solutions to advance economic empowerment and development within the African Diaspora through keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and supportive ecosystems in achieving these goals, recognizing the valuable contributions of African diaspora youth to the Canadian economy.
Workshops provided a valuable platform for discussing strategies, sharing knowledge on accessing capital, building supportive networks, exporting innovations, and expanding businesses globally. These sessions emphasized the significance of networking, mentorship, and collaboration in fostering economic success and sustainable development within the African Diaspora community in Canada and beyond.
