FOA 2019: Welcome Address by Olutoyin Oyelade

Welcome to Friends of Africa- 2019, The 9th Edition

Introduction: It is a honour, a privilege, and a blessing to stand before you at this 9th Edition of Friends of Africa Economic Summit. In the last 8 years, the Friends of Africa platform convened to discuss various developmental agenda of African nations, review the emerging trends and successful initiatives of developed nations, with the aim to improve the developmental initiatives in Canada and replicate these benefits and gains in the nations across Africa.

Friends of Africa is fast evolving from that platform, into a movement that reviews, debates, defines, designs, and offers remedial and corrective measures; all in a bid to revive systems, build lasting structures, and improve the policy framework that underpins governance in Africa. We are a great believer in the African Continent.

Our belief stems from not just what we have seen, heard, or do, but from what we think Africa and its emerging markets could become…We believe that Africa could skip the development gap and catch up with other continents in innovation, in creativity and in all aspects of technological advancement such as nanotechnology, internet of things, Archi-tech, infra-tech, sustainability, artificial intelligence and smart infrastructure such as smart grids, smart-house and smart rail networks ..This belief is one of the reasons Friends of Africa convenes annually. The greater Purpose is to facilitate Africa‚Äôs capacity, ability, agility, and willingness to contribute effectively to the advancement of the digital economy through inclusive growth- the theme of this SummitA few people might ask, how is it possible for African Countries to takes its rightful place amongst the Comity of Nations? Or how can Africa position itself for advancement and to becoming the future of tech- similar to the depiction of the award winning movie BLACK PANTHER, and Wakanda forever?
